On the Minimal Length of Semigroup Presentations
We define the length of a semigroup presentation and related ideas. Theoretical results and bounds are presented, gained while investigating the lengths of groups defined by semigroup presentations. Minimal length semigroup presentations are obtained in certain cases. AMS Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 20F05, 20M05
متن کاملPresentations of Semigroup Algebras of Weighted Trees
We find presentations for subalgebras of invariants of the coordinate algebras of binary symmetric models of phylogenetic trees studied by Buczynska and Wisniewski in [BW]. These algebras arise as toric degenerations of rings of global sections of weight varieties of the Grassmanian of two planes associated to the Plücker embedding, and as toric degenerations of rings of invariants of Cox-Nagat...
متن کاملSemigroup presentations for test local groups
In this paper we exhibit a type of semigroup presentations which determines a class of local groups. We show that the finite elements of this class generate the pseudovariety LG of all finite local groups and use them as test-semigroups to prove that LG and S, the pseudovariety of all finite semigroups, verify the same κ-identities involving κ-terms of rank at most 1, where κ denotes the implic...
متن کاملComparing semigroup and monoid presentations for finite monoids
It is known that for any finite group G given by a finite group presentation 〈A |R 〉 there exists a finite semigroup presentation 〈 B | Q 〉 for G of the same deficiency, i.e. satisfying |Q| − |B| = |R| − |A|. It is also known that the analogous statement does not hold for all finite monoids. In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a finite monoid M , given by a finite mon...
متن کاملDerivations on Certain Semigroup Algebras
In the present paper we give a partially negative answer to a conjecture of Ghahramani, Runde and Willis. We also discuss the derivation problem for both foundation semigroup algebras and Clifford semigroup algebras. In particular, we prove that if S is a topological Clifford semigroup for which Es is finite, then H1(M(S),M(S))={0}.
